This work was intended to define terms related to building and architecture. According to the work’s preface, the study of architecture could be broken down into eight categories, including “Designing, Geometry, Arithmetick, Stone-cutting, Perspective, Mechanicks, Levelling, and Hydraulicks.” The primary purpose of this work would have been to inform land owners on the types of building materials available and their reasonable prices.
