The Brooklyn Bridge is perhaps the most iconic bridge in the world.  It was opened to traffic on May 24, 1883 at the Brooklyn approach.  It was classed as a hybrid cable-stayed suspension bridge constructed by the John A. Roebling Family.  It is designated as a National Historic Landmark as well as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark (Lehigh has its own National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in Fritz Engineering Laboratory).  This report describes the celebratory event, speakers, music, and cost.
