As a sport, baseball is composed equally of skillful athletics and statistical analysis. As seen in Henry Chadwick’s 1866 baseball reference book (on display on the 1st floor), methodically tracking every aspect of the game has been an integral part of the sport since its creation. Over the 150+ years that baseball has been played professionally, a tremendous amount of data has been recorded and organized into distinct records. Some of the more random or obscure records presented in this work include: families with three or more brothers who played in the major league, pitchers whose careers lasted 10 or more seasons and never had a losing record, and batting triple crown losers. Many records have been set since the publication of this work and the analysis of new metrics has introduced new records to track.
