West Coast baseball may be most commonly associated with the teams that moved to California in the 1950s and 1960s (Dodgers, Giants, Athletics), but the Pacific Northwest also enjoys a rich tradition of baseball. Published by SABR for their 2006 annual meeting, this compilation of 22 articles charts the development of baseball in Washington and Oregon from the founding of the Pacific Northwest League in 1890 through the Seattle Mariners’ record setting 2001 season. While it is easy to focus exclusively on major league teams and the cities that host them, baseball has always taken root and thrived in smaller locales.
