In a poorly-reviewed example of his many baseball films, Kevin Costner stars as Billy Chapel, an aging star pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. He is informed that he will be traded to the San Francisco Giants at the conclusion of a game meaningless for the Tigers but which would win the NY Yankees their division. His options are to be traded or retire. This news prompts Billy to reflect upon his career and all the sacrifices he has made for baseball while he pitches what could be his final game. Absorbed in his reflections, he does not notice until the bottom of the 8th inning that he is on the brink of pitching a perfect game.
