Written in part by Rachel Robinson, Jackie’s wife, and inspired by the 50th anniversary of his breaking the color barrier, this work uses photographs and personal commentary to share Robinson’s life in and outside of baseball. While Jackie Robinson’s baseball career has achieved a mythical status, the photographs in this book depict him as dedicated to his family and the civil rights movement, which he helped to spark in 1947. From his early life in California to his death in 1972, this work provides a unique and heartfelt perspective on the story of an American hero.
