Based on Michael Lewis’s best-selling book of the same name, Moneyball is the story of Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane’s attempt to use sabermetrics, a branch of statistical analysis named for the Society for American Baseball Research, to scout and acquire undervalued players in an effort to engineer a baseball team that could win championships on a low-market budget. On-base percentage (OBP) was the major metric used when identifying and valuing players for acquisition. On the surface a film about baseball statistics, Moneyball speaks to a larger audience about the value of believing in yourself as you forge a new, untried path.
