-Ralph S. Graber Biography

The books on display in this case are from the collection of the late Ralph S. Graber (’46, ’48G), donated to Lehigh University Libraries Special Collections by Mrs. Graber in 2017. He was an avid book collector with an interest in American sports including baseball and football. After graduating from Lehigh University with a bachelor’s degree in 1946 and a master’s degree in 1948, Dr. Graber studied English and American Literature at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a doctoral degree in 1959. He taught English and American Studies at Muhlenberg College from 1953 until his retirement in 1989, briefly serving as chairman of the English Department. Dr. Graber was published in several scholarly journals including the Society for American Baseball Research’s National Pastime and Baseball Research Journal, also on display in this exhibit. He also provided biographical descriptions of baseball players to the American National Biography, the Biographical Dictionary of American Sport, and African-American Sports Greats.
