The second novel by actor David Duchovny, this work examines the way in which baseball and family are intertwined. The main character, a struggling author who works as a peanut seller at Yankee Stadium, reconnects with his ailing father, whose health is tied to the success or failure of the Boston Red Sox. While the Red Sox’s 1978 season ended tragically with a home run by New York Yankee Bucky Dent in a division tie breaker game, Duchovny’s main character fabricates the results of the season to keep his father in better health. While baseball may seem like just a sport, this story reflects on how it can affect our lives as more than just a simple game.
