Maurice Broun (1906- ).

Hawks Aloft: The Story of Hawk Mountain. New York: Dodd, Mead Co. [1949].

Considered a "conservation classic", Hawks Aloft chronicles the founding of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton, Pennsylvania, the worlds' first refuge for birds of prey. Through his personal accounts, Maurice Broun, who, with his wife, served as founder and the first curator of the Sanctuary, tells a unique and colorful story of the early years of the Sanctuary, also gives extensive information on the plants, animals and people of the region. Broun's endeavor has ensured that the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary remains one of the 15 top birding sites in America.
