Report on the Birds of Pennsylvania; with Special Reference to the Food Habits, Based on over Four Thousand Stomach Examinations, by Benjamin Harry Warren, Ornithologist, Pennsylvania State Board of Agriculture. Harrisburg: E.K. Meyers, State Printer, 1890.

Published by authority of the Commonwealth, Warren's enlarged 2nd edition's targeted audience is the citizens, especially the farmers, of Pennsylvania rather than the scientific community, to provide them all the necessary information of feeding and migration habits of the birds of the Commonwealth. As the introduction states, "The greater portion of the descriptions ... are original, having been taken principally from specimens in the author's collection." In 99 color plates, there are 160 species represented. Along with Witmer Stone's work, it is considered to be one of the first major works on birds of Pennsylvania.
