A Selection of the Birds of Brazil and Mexico. London: H. G. Bohn, 1841.

Originally considered as a potential collaborator of Audubon on his Ornithological Biography in 1830, Swainson was an ornithologist and artist who published, collected, and researched extensively throughout his career. Swainson traveled throughout Europe, eventually joining an expedition to Brazil in 1816, where he gathered specimens and details for the present work, first published in 1834. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1840, where he died in 1855.
