First Edition. Second of two classic working-class novels by Haines dealing with life in the electric transmission industry. Per the jacket blurb, “High Tension is written in the jargon of the hot wire, and its conversation… sputters and crackles throughout to heighten the tension of a novel about a little known group of danger lovers - the linemen.” Archibald Hanna cited Haines's first novel, Slim, as an inspiration for his groundbreaking collection of American social and occupational fiction, the catalog of which is now the major reference work in its field.
