First Edition. First printing, with signature mark D on p.49. Early labor novel set among female leather workers. Includes a description of a failed strike at the shoe factory where the heroine works. The heroine joins the strike, but “realizes she was wrong and returns to work.” Overall moral is that labor is not for money, but for growth in character. (Blake p. 225) COAN, p. 82; SMITH F-397.
