First Edition. Following the Civil War, a business speculator amasses sufficient wealth and power to erase all economic and political opposition. Following a massive stock market panic which he engineers, he installs himself as Emperor of America. The references to Morgan, Vanderbilt, Carnegie, etc. are clear but remain implicit. An ambitious and rather uncommon American anti-trust dystopia. BLEILER (Checklist) p.244. SMITH S-32. NEGLEY 994.
