Jeffery Bezos (1964-)

Jeffery “Jeff” Bezos is a business magnate who reinvented the sales and marketing industry in the e-commerce era and became a tycoon of online retailing. In 1995 he quit his Wall Street job and started an online bookselling business in his Seattle home. Today bookselling is only a portion of Amazon, who sells “anything to anyone.” Amazon’s e-book reader Kindle was introduced in 2007, and in 2011, Amazon sold more electronic books than traditional print books.

When many were skeptical about the future of the print newspapers, Bezos surprisingly bought The Washington Post for $250 million and created some anticipation for the industry. Bezos also announced in December 2013 that within five years, Amazon may deliver its packages with drones. The Lehigh Libraries regularly purchases books from Amazon. As of August 2014, there has been no drone delivery yet.
