Peter Simon Pallas (1741-1811). [Letter] March 2. St. Petersburgh, Russia.

Pallas expresses his gratitude that Reverend La Trobe has introduced him to the recipient. He thanks the recipient for sending English ores and fossils which are especially welcome since “my Collection, only begun since I live in Russia, contains little or no minerals of English produce.” He explains that the shipment was delayed due to the freezing of the river which meant that the vessel had to unload. Pallas encloses a further wish list, inviting his recipient to do the same, and details instructions for transporting future parcels. He also encloses specimens of Siberian ores as well as dried plants and insects for the current president of the Royal Society, Mr. Banks, and Siberian seeds for Mrs. Blakburne of Oxford. Pallas, a professor of natural history and member of the Academy of Russia, published Travels through the Southern Provinces of the Russian Empire.
