Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850-1919). Letter to Lucius H. [Carimen?]. 1885 April 21.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox was a 19th century American poet. While she enjoyed great popularity with the public, she was not a critical success. American Studies students may find a possible thesis topic in this letter. Wilcox thanks Lucius for his letter and states that she has been trying to find time and inspiration for the poem he requires; she states that she has been absent from home and work for three months and now “orders are thronging in upon me.” Wilcox lists the commitments on her time, including contributing to 15 periodicals, writing, and learning French. However, Wilcox does promise to send something by and by.
