Lehigh’s Special Collections holds over 600 autograph letters and manuscripts, most of which are no more than a page in length. Yet these letters, writings, charters, and other documents on diverse subjects ranging from the arts to technology, share a common bond. Each piece of paper, in different ways, provides a snapshot of life. Though brief, perhaps with limited content, many of these writings may serve as the starting point for an in-depth research project that will unite researcher with both published and unpublished writings. By reading these brief missives, students and scholars alike will have the opportunity to interact with history. We hope that this interaction, though brief, will inspire further investigation and exploration.
