Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901). [Letter] 1891 December 14, Washington (D.C.) [to] Mrs. Jamie H. Davenport.

Harrison writes to thank Davenport for the kind invitation, but he cannot get away to come to Minneapolis because he is “very busy.” This letter was written during Harrison's term as the 23rd President of the United States; his administration is often remembered for policies such as the Sherman Anti-Trust Act which sought to guard against the formation of monopolies. Before assuming the Presidency, Harrison fought in the Civil War, and also served as a Senator from Indiana; he conducted an unsuccessful bid for reelection to the Presidency in 1892.
