-Medieval Leaves

This manuscript is a fragment, consisting of five parchment leaves, possibly from the same manuscript. Four of the leaves are paired into bifolia (glued together at the center), the fifth leaf is a singleton. The lower sections of the folios are worn and curled, with some tearing; a tear on the first leaf has been repaired with thread.

This fragment of a larger text might not be representative of the original manuscript and might not serve to convey the message for which it was originally written. However, today, it serves an important function in the classroom - it allows students to experience vellum in a way they might not when handling an intact, fragile volume. When brought to the classroom, students can flex, feel, and even sniff this centuries-old parchment.
