Named in honor of Herbert R. Imbt, Class of 1938, this Mountaintop Campus facility is a research space housing the ATLSS (Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems) testing laboratory which is the home of the structural engineering entity of the Department of Civil Engineering. In the building is a large multidirectional testing wall which serves the purpose of testing full-scale bridge elements and earthquake reactions on structures. The building also houses the Energy Research Center.

In Fritz Engineering Laboratory on the Asa Packer Campus, the headquarters for the Civil Engineering Department, there is another Herbert R. Imbt named entity, the Herbert R. Imbt Hydraulics Laboratory.
