Leaves of the Gutenberg Bible
The first printed book in the Western world, this Bible, by its very weight and sumptuousness, proved an unsuitable model for the utilitarian, though often beautiful, book that became the norm. This leaf probably came from an imperfect copy, disbound and packaged by a bookseller.
