Missing Initial
This is the first printed edition of Pliny's famous work. Room had been left for colored initials to be added by the purchaser, who never arranged for the task. The book has no title page, and neither pagination nor foliation. It is a manuscript book in every respect except the means used to produce it, and a reader used only to manuscript books would have been comfortable with it.
