Nathaniel Currier (1813-1888).

Currier & Ives Chronicles of America.
Edited by John Lowell Pratt. Color plates reproduced from the original hand colored stone prints by N. Currier and Currier & Ives.  Maplewood, N.J.: Hammond, [1968].

Nathaniel Currier and James Merritt Ives headed the New York printmaking firm Currier & Ives, which produce popular lithographs of original drawings by artists like Thomas Nast and Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait.  The lithographs produced by this prolific firm detailed many aspects of American life and landscapes in the nineteenth century, including winter scenes, the Mississippi and Hudson Rivers, steamships and railroads.  Currier & Ives Chronicles of America includes reproductions of some of the lithographs.
