Like Whitman's persona, Leaves of Grass was revised accordingly to the changing world. The 1892 edition is also called "deathbed edition." By then Whitman appears in the pictures as a sage-like, "Good Grey Poet" instead of a young working class man from Brooklyn in the first editions.
