Boston, Thayer and Eldridge, 1860-61.

By 1857, Whitman had written 68 new poems and was ready for a third edition. In 1860, Thayer and Eldridge agreed on publishing the new edition. Before he was bankrupted in 1861, Thayer printed about 2000 copies (Whitman's friend John Burroughs estimates about 5000).
