A Gazetteer of the State of Pennsylvania. Part First ... General Description of the State ... Geological Construction, Canals and Rail-roads, Bridges, Revenue, Expenditures, Public Debt, &c. Part Second ... Counties, Towns, Cities, Villages, Mountains, Lakes, Rivers, Creeks, &c., Alphabetically Arranged. Philadelphia: T. Belknap, 1832.

This geographical dictionary identifies municipal and natural sites throughout Pennsylvania as they were known at the time of publication in 1832. It also serves as a source of statistics regarding commerce and population, among other things. It proved to be immensely useful for project staff digitizing Lehigh’s collection of Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company Drawings and Maps, as it enabled them to research towns no longer existant. This Gazetteer is accompanied by the hand-colored map shown here.
