Plater_003.jpg

Plater was a Swiss physician and professor of medicine whose fields of study were medicine, with an emphasis on anatomy and diseases of the mind, and pressed botanical specimens. His medical textbook contains woodcuts copied from the Fabrica of anatomist Andreas Vesalius (1514-1564). Vesalius, author of one of the most influential books on human anatomy, gathered his data through dissections, and created his drawings based on his observations.
